Samsung has just unveiled two new Galaxy devices. The rumored “A Series” is finally here. Samsung’s Galaxy A3 and A5 are some of Samsung’s slimmest smartphones to date with a variety of social networking features and full metal unibody designs. The Galaxy A3 is a mere 6.9mm thin, while the A5 sits at just 6.7mm. Unfortunately, there’s nothing crazy happening in the specifications department…
Both of these new Galaxy devices are simply mid-range smartphones with a killer design and build quality. Samsung has been quick to market the fact that they both feature 5-megapixel front-facing cameras for “unmatched selfies,” and they both ship with the Samsung features we’ve grown to know like Ultra-Power Saving Mode, Private Mode, and Mutliscreen.
Galaxy A5 specifications
The Galaxy A5 features a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,280 x 720, 2GB of RAM, and a 2,300 mAh battery. As mentioned it features a 5-megapixel camera on the front side, while the back is home to a 13-megapixel shooter with an LED flash.
Galaxy A3 specifications
The Galaxy A3 is packing a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 4.5-inch qHD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 960 x 540, 1GB of RAM, and a 1,900 mAh battery. It features the same front-facing camera as the A5, but has an 8-megapixel rear camera. Both devices ship with Android 4.4 KitKat.
As you can see, there’s nothing incredibly special about either of these devices. They are simply mid-range smartphones. It’s unfortunate that Samsung doesn’t hold off on these excellent designs for other flagship devices, but I suppose Samsung isn’t aiming for the masses with these two random releases. The Galaxy A5 and A3 will be available “in select markets including China” at some point in November 2014. Full press release and video below.
