New Google Trips app is a smart assistant for your vacations, currently in beta testing

Update: You can now grab the Google Trips APK from APKMirror.

One of Inbox’s most convenient features are Travel bundles that organize reservations and other related emails in an easy to read manner. Google is now testing (via Androidworld) a Trips app that organizes every aspect of your travels and offers useful suggestions.

Currently in testing for members of the Google Maps Local Guides program, the app will likely see a release soon. One of the app’s key features is the ability to store travel data offline.

The main view of Google Trips contains a list of past and upcoming travels. Trips are added automatically by scanning Gmail messages, but users can also add their own travels using the FAB at the bottom right corner. Tapping on a destination will present users with several sections related to various aspects of a trip: Reservations, Things to do, Saved places, Food & drink, Getting around, and Need to know.

In Things to do, users can see top tourist destinations, as well as places tailored for them. Locations are also organized into indoors and outdoors. Overall, this is quite similar to a feature in Google Maps that suggests places to visit around you. However, the app does much more than just offering suggestions. The Getting around section will tell users how to get from place to place using a variety of travel methods, like public transportation.

The app makes heavy uses of swiping tabs to organize data and overall has a very Material design. In general, the app reflects Google’s ambition to be a smart assistant for every aspect of your life. While it is currently in testing for Android, there will likely be an iOS version.
