For many, many years, whenever you search for anything on Google, chances are that you see a sea of blue unread links fill your web browser. Unless you’re in China, that is, in which case you see red ones.
Still, blue web links have been a feature within Google Search for a long time. So it comes as something of a minor shock to see that the company is now testing a new color: black.
From all evidence we’ve been reading so far, it seems this is just an A/B test Google is performing on the back end. That means not everyone is going to see it, and even those who do won’t see it every time they hit Google up.
As of right now, it’s unclear exactly why Google is messing with the colors in such a drastic way, but it is clear that not everyone is a fan. As reported by the Telegraph, there are multiple users complaining about the new black color scheme.
Part of the dissatisfaction seems to be that it’s hard to tell which links have been clicked already and which are unread. With the current blue scheme, there’s quite a clear distinction between the two colors of blue used. Of course, a lot of the negativity is the usual dislike of anything new.
Let us know if you see the new black links in the comments below. So far, none of us here at 9to5Google have seen the change.
