New rumors corroborate Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 launch in August as image renders surface [Video]

The rumor mill for Samsung‘s next flagship seems to be unstoppable. Be it for its size, specs or configurations, it is undoubted that the Galaxy Note 6 — or Note 7, as we have now come to expect it — is polarizing a lot of interest.

Today, thanks to two of the most famous leakers in the tech space, we may have new information regarding its launch date as well as a detailed look at the device itself…

We reported last week that Samsung was going to skip the ‘Note 6’ and jump straight to 7 in order to streamline its high-end products in an easier-to-understand way for consumers, but similarities seem not to end there.

Other than the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge‘s numbering, in fact, the Note lineup seemed ready to bring two devices to the market as well, indeed one being flat and one sporting Samsung’s signature dual edge display, but today’s leaks are bringing some confusion to the matter.

Thanks to a very brief video posted on Twitter by Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka @OnLeaks) early this morning, we had a sneak peek at the curvier version of the sequel to America’s most loved phone.

However, in one of its collaboration with uSwitch website, OnLeaks gave us a much more detailed look at the phone.

For one, we can see that much like the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, the Note 7 draws a lot of inspiration from its predecessor, design wise. The combination of glass and metal accommodates the display, here said to be again between 5.7 and 5.8 inches, with everything else following the S7/Note 5’s blueprint.

And speaking of blueprints, albeit clearly showing a dual-edge curved panel, the report mentions that they “can’t tell you with any certainty is whether the phone in the blueprints is the standard Galaxy Note 6 / Note 7 or the as-yet-unconfirmed, curved-screen Edge-branded model that’s rumoured to be landing alongside it,” which sounds rather bizarre.

“According to my source, this is very likely the regular Note 6/7. So a so called Note 6/7 Edge seems pretty unlikely,” said Hemmerstoffer in a following tweet.

We are not exactly sure what would the “edge” version look like if we took this as the “standard” one, but another notable change is instead apparent — and, as per the report, 100% confirmed.

You can clearly see that there is a USB-C port next to the S-Pen slot down below, indicating that Samsung is finally ready to ditch microUSB for good.

Given that we have now confirmed how USB-C and Qualcomm‘s QuickCharge 3.0 work fine together, there should be no reason for the Korean giant not to move ahead and implement the new standard; a change we are indeed glad is taking place.

Other rumors mentioned the potential presence of a dual-camera system, but if these renders are indeed legitimate, we wouldn’t keep our hopes up for that.

However, the report claims that the sources talked about “a concentration of sensors” (two large ones and three smaller ones) above the screen, supporting the rumored presence of an iris scanner.

Other than that, the Note 7 should sport the usual array of specs we would more or less expect it to have; water resistance, a QHD AMOLED display, an up-to-4000mAh battery and perhaps even 6GB of RAM.

And as per Evan Blass, known in the tech world as @evleaks, we may not have to wait long; there had been rumors reporting the next Note’s arrival “in the week of August 15”, and Blass’ claim is allegedly supporting that.

According to him, in fact, we are “almost exactly two months away” from the phone’s launch, indicating that an early arrival is indeed planned for Samsung’s forthcoming phablet.
