On an earnings call earlier this week where Alphabet announced $21.6 billion of revenue in Q2 2016, Google CEO Sundar Pichai responded to questions regarding Google’s own strategies, including hardware.

While responding to questions regarding the company’s hardware strategy Pichai revealed that the company has shipped 30 million Chromecast units since the release of the device back in 2013. This includes the original Chromecast, the 2015 refresh, and the Chromecast Audio, all three of which have proved very popular in the market for streaming devices.

Over the first two years Google sold about 17 million units and as of late May, the last time the figure was shared, Google had sold 25 million.

Before speaking to the Chromecast’s sales, Pichai mentioned “We realized a lot of computing intersections happen at the intersection of hardware and software,” referring to early this year when the company put former Motorola CEO Rick Osterloh in charge of its hardware efforts. We haven’t heard much regarding that change since the announcement but expect to before Christmas when Google typically announces new products.
