Google Assistant added to IFTTT for Google Home and Pixel devices ─ here are a few things you can do with it

Like any voice assistant, Google Assistant is only as powerful as what it can interact with ─ especially in the case of Google Home. While Assistant on our phones gives us what we need, namely, the power of Google’s search skills, Google Home will need to integrate with physical products in order to be truly useful.

Unfortunately, Google Home doesn’t have too many integrations to kick things off, only offering official connections with Philips Hue  and Samsung SmartThings. The saving grace, however, is integration with IFTTT. This enables Google Home, and Google Assistant, to connect to dozens of products and services, and it’s available now.

IFTTT has recently opened up the Google Assistant channel. To add it simply head over to ifttt.com/google_assistant and connect the Google account that you want to use with your Pixel/Google Home. Once connected, you can create recipes with IFTTT to connect Assistant to a variety of services.

Listed on IFTTT’s Assistant page is a plethora of examples of what you’ll be able to do. A few of my favorites are listed below.

The list goes on and on. With IFTTT and Google Assistant, there are a whole lot of possibilities for what you can do. As Google Home preps to go on sale in just over a week, we can’t wait to finally give this a shot for ourselves!
