HTC will livestream ‘for U’ event as expected ‘Ocean Note’ leaks w/ second ticker display

HTC has been in the news as of late with a leaked design video over the weekend and an announcement on Thursday. Following another leak (now pulled), the design of the Ocean Note phablet has been revealed with a ticker display at the top of the device.

From the leaked images, we see a design that hasn’t deviated much from existing HTC devices. It has a metal body and angled sides with antenna lines similar to the One A9. However, the rear moves to a curved, glossier metal and appears to be fingerprint-prone in one of the images. Available colors include white, black, gold, and blue.

The devices look rather thin, save for the raised camera bump. According to a previous rumor, the Ocean Note is expected to be the higher-end phablet among HTC’s three product launches this quarter. The signature feature is expected to be an “industry-leading” camera.

The front looks unchanged from previous HTC devices with a fingerprint sensor flanked by two capacitive buttons. However, the presence of a second screen is a first for the company and will draw comparisons to LG’s V10 and V20. Functionality appears to be the same with it acting like an app launcher.

As for retail availability, the time of HTC’s livestream might provide a clue. With the event starting at 3AM EST/12AM PST, it’s likely that the event will not be hosted in the United States. As such, it is more likely that there will be an Asian and European focus for the Ocean Note.

Update: According to VentureBeat, the Ocean Note will have very similar specs as the Google Pixel. With a Snapdragon 821 and 4GB of RAM, it also features the same 12.3MP Sony camera sensor found on the Pixel. Several software tweaks made to the camera will reportedly beat the Pixel’s DxOMark score of 89. Notably, the year-old HTC 10 is already in second place at 88.
