How to change the Google Assistant voice

Google is always working on improving the Assistant and occasionally adds new voices for users to choose from. With eight currently available as of this writing, here’s how to pick the right one for you.

How to change the Google Assistant voice

  1. Long press on the Home button
  2. Tap on the blue button in the window’s top right corner
  3. Select the three-dot overflow menu button in the top right corner
  4. Choose Settings
  5. Tap on Preferences
  6. Select Assistant voice
  7. Choose any of the available voices to hear what they sound like
  8. Hit the back or home button to save the choice

The first step is to get into the Google Assistant settings menu on your phone. To do this, long press on your device’s home button until the Assistant pops up. Next, tap on the blue button in the top right corner of the window. And finally, select the three-dot overflow menu button in the top right corner of the page and choose Settings.

The next step is to locate the Assistant voice menu. This step is relatively simple as you just need to find and tap on the Preferences option and then select Assistant voice.

You should now see a list of all of the available voices in your region. Just tap on each one until you find the voice that you prefer and then back out of the page to save your choice. Afterward, every Assistant device tied to your Google account such as Homes and smartphones will automatically use the selected voice.

One of the most recent changes to the Assistant voices menu was the addition of a color-based picker to differentiate each item instead of names or numbers. You can see an example of this below.
