Samsung says AI features are coming to these older Galaxy devices in May

Samsung’s new AI features are useful, but they’re only available to select devices. Now, though, Samsung has said that the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21, among other devices, will be getting AI features as soon as next month.

In a forum post from Korea, a Samsung employee has confirmed that One UI 6.1 with Galaxy AI features will be coming to not only the Galaxy S22 series as rumored, but Samsung’s entire 2022 and even 2021 flagship lineups. This also aligns with Samsung’s comments earlier this week, where it said “more” devices would get Galaxy AI soon.

This includes, specifically, flagship-level devices, so Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy Tab S8 FE, and others wouldn’t be eligible. Still, this opens up select Galaxy AI features to over a dozen more devices.

The note, translated, specifics that these devices won’t get all Galaxy AI features. 2022 devices would get “Galaxy S23 FE level AI.” This is to say that the Galaxy S23 FE doesn’t support all of Samsung’s features, as we previously noted, as “Instant Slow-Mo” is missing from the budget-conscious phone.

The following devices would get this “tier” of Galaxy AI:

  • Galaxy S22
  • Galaxy S22+
  • Galaxy S22 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Fold 4
  • Galaxy Z Flip 4
  • Galaxy Tab S8
  • Galaxy Tab S8+
  • Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra

Meanwhile, Samsung would also bring select Galaxy AI to select devices released back in 2021. This includes the Galaxy S21’s flagship trio and the year’s foldables. However, these devices, as Samsung says, would only support Circle to Search and “Magic Rewrite,” which we believe could be a messy translation of Generative Edit, as that’s a cloud-powered feature.

Devices with those AI features would include:

  • Galaxy S21
  • Galaxy S21+
  • Galaxy S21 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Fold 3
  • Galaxy Z Flip 3

As with other devices, Galaxy AI features would arrive on these 2022 and 2021 releases via One UI 6.1 which, according to these comments, is currently scheduled for “early May.”
