Samsung brings One UI 6.1 and AI features to Galaxy S22 and more foldables

After announcing it last month, Samsung has started rolling out its One UI 6.1 update and AI features to the Galaxy S22, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4, as well as some surprising additional devices too.

Rolling out now to the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra starting in Korea, One UI 6.1 arrives as an OTA on top of Android 14. The update brings with it select Galaxy AI features that first debuted on the Galaxy S24 series earlier this year and previously made their way to Galaxy S23, Z Fold 5, and Z Flip 5.

Samsung is also extending those same updates to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, both of which are essentially running the same platform as the S22 series.

The following AI features are rolling out to these devices:

  • Circle to Search with Google
  • Chat Assist
  • Interpreter
  • Live Translate
  • Note Assist
  • Transcript Assist
  • Browsing Assist
  • Generative Edit
  • Edit Suggestion
  • AI-Generated Wallpaper

Essentially, these devices are getting the same suite as the rest of Samsung’s AI-enhanced Galaxy devices, but they lose support for Instant Slow-Mo in the Gallery app. That feature uses generative AI to create additional frames in a video to give it slow-motion even if it wasn’t shot in a high frame rate mode.

These updates should be rolling out to more regions in the very near future.

Beyond that, it was rumored prior to Samsung’s announcement that the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Flip 3 would also be getting One UI 6.1 and a limited set of AI features, and that’s exactly what’s now happened. Also starting in Korea, Samsung is also rolling out One UI 6.1 to these devices and, surprisingly, they’re also getting a lot of AI features.

Samsung’s Galaxy AI features on Galaxy Z Fold 3, as SamMobile claims, include all of the same features available to Samsung’s 2022 releases as listed above. However, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy S21 are only getting Circle to Search, likely due to their lesser amounts of RAM (as Fold 3 has 12GB) combined with a chipset that’s older and not optimized for on-device AI.
