According to Unwired View, Samsung Germany sent out the invitation shown above to advertise an Oct. 11 product announcement. The local press received the invitation, which touts “something small will be really big,” leading to speculation that Samsung will unveil a “mini” Galaxy S III. The smaller device has been rumored since August. Samsung further added in the invitation that we should “get ready for a little sensation.” Samsung’s infamous “S” appears in the background of the ad, giving us reason to believe that a Galaxy device is indeed on its way.
Specs for the mini Galaxy S III is not clear at this point; but if we had to guess, the device will look something like the HTC Droid Incredible. Previous leaks said that the device would have a 4-inch touchscreen, which you bet Apple will like, and it will sport Jelly Bean with Samsung’s TouchWiz software on top of course.
What is the need for a smaller Galaxy S III? The Galaxy S III has been huge on the market worldwide after selling 10 million in its first month. There’s no doubt that a smaller version of Samsung’s flagship could appeal to customers who like a smaller screen… and those who are just particularly fond of Apple’s 4-inch iPhone 5.
There is no word on where the device will be available when/if announced. Like a number of Android phone launches, we suspect the Europe and Asia region will be graced first. The United States and alike will get the second wave; HTC took that route with its HTC One X on crack this morning.
We will cover the event on Oct. 11 and will let you know more details as they are shared.
