In a new NOVA documentary episode that recently aired on PBS, David Pogue hosts and checks out a next generation battery invented by Mike Zimmerman that won’t explode like the Samsung Note 7 (or create a thermal event) even when cut or punctured. The Search for the Super Battery episode is an hour-long look at “the hidden world of energy storage and how it holds the keys to a greener future.”

With the lithium-ion waste fire at Samsung’s SDI battery factory this week, it’s clear the evolution of batteries should not only focus on capacity, function and end-user safety, but should also consider the employees that produce batteries and the waste’s environmental impacts…

Hulu sets itself apart from DirecTV Now as it secures CBS for upcoming live TV service

Hulu announced today that it has signed a new agreement with CBS to carry content from America’s most-watched broadcast network including both on-demand and live programming. This news comes about a month after DirecTV Now launched without the major network, although CBS CEO Les Moonves has alluded that they’ll be able to figure something out.

Ford, Toyota, and more form alliance to prevent Google and Apple from taking over the in-car experience

report from Bloomberg today takes note that Ford and Toyota have joined forces with four other automakers and some electronics suppliers to form the SmartDeviceLink Consortium. The alliance has shared its main goal of creating more choice for connecting smartphones with vehicles, which in turn could create some friction with Google, Apple, and their visions for integrating and controlling the user interface inside of cars.

Last week, USA Today shared an article reporting that President-elect Donald Trump has invited top technology leaders to a summit in Manhattan at Trump Tower on December 14. The invitations were reportedly sent by his campaign manager, Reince Priebus, son-in-law Jared Kushner, and transition advisor, Peter Thiel.

T-Mobile’s latest un-carrier move is ‘DIGITS,’ a Google Voice-inspired phone number service

[UPDATE: T-Mobile pulled their DIGITS sign-up page after a glitch exposed unintended customer information. It appears the issue is now solved and the page is back up and running.]

Known for pushing the envelope, as far as cellular carriers are concerned, T-Mobile has disclosed the details of its new program ‘DIGITS’ in an un-carrier announcement today. Certainly taking cues from Google Voice, the new Digits initiative aims to provide users with phone number flexibility and convenience, and includes multiple phone number solutions as well. The company is launching a limited free beta for T-Mobile customers (with post-paid accounts) starting today.
