Following yesterday’s Home Depot leak, Google’s upcoming camera lineup continues to appear in stores, and we now have more details about the Nest Doorbell 2K, like the exact resolution.

Ahead of the expected October 1 announcement, the rumored Nest Cam and Doorbell “2K” updates are already appearing in stores.

Following a leak last month, a new update to the Google Home app has surfaced with images and details about the company’s new lineup of Nest cameras.

In a brief post today, Google is officially teasing an October 1 debut for its new Nest Cam and Gemini updates for Google Home.

Over the past few weeks, Google has been rolling out various improvements to how the Home app works with Nest Cam products, and the company is now detailing everything new.

Google is apparently planning a shakeup for its smart home hardware efforts centered around – you guess it – Gemini, with a new “Google Home Premium” subscription reportedly taking the place of Nest Aware.

Google’s Nest hardware suite hasn’t seen a refresh in four years now, but the company is now gearing up for a new launch this year which includes better video quality, support for digital zoom, and some striking hardware updates.

Through recent updates, the Google Home app is now fixing the final deficiency of older Nest thermostats with the arrival of scheduling support.

Google is addressing a longtime sore point of its Nest cameras with recent updates to the Google Home app which, apparently, will reduce how often users run into “no video available” errors.

Google this week revealed that Nest Aware, the service required to make the most out of Nest Cam, is getting a major price hike, and it’s a tough one to accept as the hardware just keeps aging.

Following the last increase in 2023, Google is raising the price of Nest Aware in the US next month. This is according to an email sent out to existing subscribers today.

While new units are no longer being made, Google has announced that new controls for the Nest x Yale Lock will be coming to the Google Home app soon.

The Nest brand has been built up for years as it was a pioneer of the smart home, but Google has slowly moved away from what so many people bought into as it has built up the Google Home ecosystem. Now, the Nest you knew is gone for good, and we know what the future looks like.

In discontinuing the Nest Protect and Nest x Yale Lock yesterday, Google Nest reiterated its commitment to “building devices for the home.”

In partnership with Google, Yale today announced the Yale Smart Lock with Matter. This serves as a sequel to the Nest x Yale Lock from 2018, which is being discontinued. 

Google announced today that it is no longer manufacturing the 2013/15 Nest Protect or 2018 Nest x Yale Lock, but has some third-party alternatives lined up.

In July of 2023, Google stopped offering new subscriptions of 1st gen Nest Aware, but allowed existing customers to continue using it. This May, Google will “no longer support the Nest Aware 1st generation service” in some regions. 

Security systems have been around for a long time now, but for many, they’re still overly complicated, overly expensive, and not as well integrated with the new wave of smart home products. ADT, one of the biggest names in home security, has been on a mission to change that and after a false start in 2023, the new ADT+ system is a huge upgrade, especially for those in Google’s Nest ecosystem.

The Nest app has a long history, but it’s slowly on its way out. As the next major product moves fully to the Google Home app, the Nest app is nearly done for good.
