We told you yesterday about a new phone that ASUS is teasing, and the company made it look like it had some kind of interesting tricks up its sleeve (dual back cameras?) for the upcoming ZenFone refresh. But while the next ZenFone is definitely expected to be announced at the upcoming CES 2015, new specs have shown up in documents submitted to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (via Android Police) for a phone dubbed the “ZC451CG,” and they aren’t all that spectacular.
The description of the device in question clearly labels it as “the successor or hot selling smartphone model – ZenFone.” It then goes on to list the device’s specs, including a 4.5-inch 480 x 854 resolution screen, a dual-core Intel processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel back shooter, a .3-megapixel front camera, and a 2100 mAh battery. On the software side, the phone will purportedly run Android 4.4 out of the box laced with ASUS’ ZenUI.
Interestingly, the description refers to the fact that it has two cameras (just like any other smartphone) as “dual camera,” which is odd wording considering what looked to be a tease of a different kind of “dual camera” in yesterday’s teaser video. Notably, we can’t know for sure that these specs are going to turn out to be completely correct, but given the fairly recent publish date of December 19, 2014, it does seem likely that this is a legitimate description of the product, and the next ZenFone is just going to be a budget refresh with baseline specs. We’ll have to wait and see.
