Android Lollipop for Galaxy S5 now hitting Russia and Malaysia

The update to Android 5.0 for the Galaxy S5 has been slowly rolling out across a variety of not-United-States countries over the last month, starting with Poland and then more recently making its way to Spain. Now, preceding what will soon be the software update’s widespread availability, devices in Russia and Malaysia are being offered (via SamMobile) some Lollipop goodness.

Just a few days ago, an internal email leaked letting retail store employees know that Lollipop would be rolling out to a variety of Samsung devices in January—and, well, now it’s January. It doesn’t come as any surprise that Samsung is now pushing the update in a couple more countries, but it is a sign that the Korean company plans a widespread release to happen soon.

The update sports build numbers G900FDXU1BNL3 and G900FDXXU1BNL9 for Russia and Malaysia, respectively. And as you likely know by now, Android 5.0 packs a slew of new features including Material Design, new notifications features, redesigned multitasking, and a hoard of other improvements. For better or for worse, all of this comes in a Touchwiz-laden package.

It’s only a matter of time before Android 5.0 finally rolls out to your Galaxy handset (unless you’re in one of the four countries mentioned, in which case you can probably check for an OTA update right now). But if you’re just not patient enough and you want to have your hands on the update as soon as possible, there are leaked builds available if that’s your kind of thing.
