Project Fi partners with US Cellular for better coverage and speeds

Google has today officially announced that its MVNO cellular network, Project Fi, has teamed up with US Cellular to add more coverage and better speeds for users on top of the current partnerships with Sprint and T-Mobile.

US Cellular has coverage in 23 US states with LTE coverage for 99% of its users both in rural and urban areas. The new coverage will be rolling out to all Fi users over the coming weeks and will continue to switch back and forth with T-Mobile and Sprint (along with WiFi) to provide everyone with the best possible speeds and reliability at all times.

Part of Project Fi’s promise is to ensure you have connection when you need it, even in areas with poor speeds or limited coverage. Your Fi device recognizes when your connection is weak and adjusts in real time. By accessing multiple cellular networks, Fi users have a connection nearly 99% of the time, and spend about 95% of cellular time on LTE — which will improve even further with the addition of U.S. Cellular.

All of these changes will take place on Google’s end with no new SIM cards or hardware changes needed.

Does this change make Project Fi a more viable option for you? If so, don’t forget that you can still pick up the Nexus 5X for just $199 with your new service.
