Beating HTC to the punch, ASUS is the first OEM to make their skinned launcher available for all Android devices. The ZenUI Launcher found on the ASUS ZenFone now installs on all devices running 4.3 and above. It has a big focus on customization, themes, and a variety of smart features.
The launcher has an iOS-like one layer mode where all apps are placed on the home screen and a traditional Android two layer mode with an app drawer. The drawer has an Auto-group feature that keeps relevant apps in the same folder for easier access. Other smart features includes the ability to swipe down to search for apps, contacts, and trending topics, as well as the ability to see recommend apps from within Auto-groups.
Swiping up on the home screen brings up the interface to customize every aspect of the launcher. ASUS puts a very big focus on themes and customizing. Users can download themes, icon packs, and wallpapers from a store. ZenUI supports editing app icon sizes and applying different icon packs. Apps can also be hidden from the main drawer.
Other fine tune controls include the ability to change the front size/style and even the scroll effects and transitions. Just added to Android N, the launcher has support for setting a different wallpaper on the lock screen and home screen. Before applying edits, a live previews gives users the ability to finalize changes.
Overall, the ZenUI Launcher is very colorful and busy, if not inconsistent at times with the Material Design that other OEMs are now moving towards. However, it is a rather powerful launcher with many pro features available for free.
