Google+ has never been the “popular” social network, but 5 years after its creation the social network is still here and still has a strong user base. Over the coming months there are several big changes coming to the platform, including a new UI for the web, but one feature we’ve lacked is the ability to add an image in the comments section. That feature, however, is apparently on its way.
The best gifts for Android users
According to an APK teardown performed by Android Police on the latest version of the Google+ app for Android, images comments are on their way, despite being in early stages. The feature is revealed by a string of code within the app as seen below:
<string name=”commented_with_image”>Commented with an image</string> <string name=”uploading_comment_photo”>Uploading…</string>
So far this is pretty basic, but it tells us that Google is working on adding this functionality, at least to the mobile app. It’s unclear exactly how it will work, but it’s safe to assume users will either be able to upload photos directly to the comments section or link to an external source such as Google Photos or Imgur.
For active Google+ users such as myself this is a feature we’ve been long awaiting, so its debut will certainly be welcome. There’s nothing to suggest a potential launch date for image comments on Google+ though, so we’ll just have to wait and see for now. Odds are it will come with future updates to the mobile app as well switch the final version of the new web UI.
