Google turns 18, but seems somewhat confused as to its own birthday

Today’s Google Doodle has the company celebrating its 18th birthday – old enough to almost buy beer in its home state of California. But perhaps the company has already been drinking, because as the Telegraph notes, it doesn’t quite seem to be able to remember its own birthdate …

However, not even Google seems to really know when it was formed. Since 2006, it has celebrated its birthday on September 27, but the year before that, had it as September 26.

In 2004, its 6th birthday Doodle went online on September 7 and in the year before that, it was September 8 [while] the company’s own history lists its incorporation date in 1998 – the nearest thing to a corporate birthday – as September 4.

At any rate, it does now seem to be officially September 27th.

Google has done pretty well for a teenager. After Apple, it’s the second largest company in the world by market cap – even if it is now technically parent company Alphabet that gets the title.
