Google has sent out invitations today to various Indian media for an business-focused event scheduled for January 4th, 2017 in Delhi. Google CEO Sundar Pichai is said to be hosting the event, and India’s Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad is also scheduled to attend…
Indian Express reports the following as the full text of the invitation:
Small and Medium Businesses are the backbone of the Indian economy and are powering the next wave of the country’s growth. At Google, we are excited about partnering with businesses to help them unlock exponential growth through the power of digital. We invite you to join Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and other senior leaders from Google as they shine spot light on how digital can be a game changer for Indian SMBs.
So the announcement surrounds small and medium businesses in some way, which for Google likely means some kind of announcement about its cloud and enterprise services — recently rebranded as G Suite. Someone also told Mashable India, however, that Pichai will have some announcements on the consumer side of things.
Google renewed its focus on India last year, and not long after that brought the first wave of free high-speed public WiFi to 10 train stations in the country. As of just a few days ago, Google announced that its public WiFi service now covers over 100 railway stations across India. Google has also been pushing its new messaging apps, Allo and Duo, in India.
