PSA: If you were signed out of your Google account tonight, don’t worry [Update]

Update: Google has acknowledged that they experienced an issue with the Google Accounts engine which reverted some user’s Google Wi-Fi and OnHub routers to their initial state. Unfortunately, if yours was reset, you will have to set it up again for it to work.

For the last couple of hours, users have been receiving Google account notifications stating that account action was required. If you’re like us, we immediately thought that someone was trying to hack into our emails. Thankfully, Google has now confirmed that they’ve received reports of these incidents but not to worry as it isn’t due to suspicious activity…

For the last couple of hours, users have been reporting problems with their Google Wi-Fi, Home, Chromecast, and even Gmail accounts. While Google hasn’t confirmed that these incidents are related, the company is currently investigating them.

Google gave Android Central the following statement:

We’ve gotten reports about some users being signed out of their accounts unexpectedly. We’re investigating, but not to worry: there is no indication that this is connected to any phishing or account security threats.

Please try to sign-in again at accounts.google.com and if you cannot remember your password, please use this link (g.co/recover) to recover your password. If you use 2-Step Verification, there may have been a delay in receiving your SMS code. Please try again or use backup codes.

If you were affected, all you should need to do is open the notification and sign back into your Google account. While your account is still secure, this is as good of a time as any to reset your password — especially if you haven’t done it in some time — as well as set up two-step verification.
