Gemini’s ‘Memory’ feature inches toward launch, will remember things about you

Google has been rolling out updates to Gemini very rapidly over the past few months, and it seems another big feature is on the horizon as “Memory” appears close to launch.

We reported last year that Gemini – at the time still called “Bard” – was working on a “Memory” feature that could use details about your gathered from previous conversations and factor that into future conversations. Details Google gave as an example back then included dietary preferences, a request for shorter responses, and the number of children the user has.

Now, it seems “Memory” is close to launch.

Dylan Roussel shared on Twitter/X over the weekend a new UI for the “Memory” feature in Gemini, saying that the feature could be launched as soon as in the coming days.

A big part of what’s new here are more specific descriptions of what Gemini’s “Memory” can do, including how storing up these memories can improve the chatbot’s replies in time.

Gemini remembers info you shared in chats, like your interests and preferences, so you don’t have to repeat yourself.

Get more helpful responses over time

As Gemini learns more about you, you’ll get more responses tailored to your needs. Turn off memory or manage info on the Memory page at any time.

Google also gives some examples such as where you live, what a student is studying, and a peanut allergy.

Notably, OpenAI just launched its own “Memory” feature as a paid upgrade to ChatGPT.

Dylan adds in a thread that Gemini has also been testing allowing users to use more tokens in their prompts, custom “Gems” that can alter how Gemini is used, and being able upload up to 10 documents at once.
