Walmart confirms its new ‘Pro’ Google TV box will be fully available ‘this month’

It’s no secret that Walmart is launching a new Google TV streaming box, but the company has now, finally, confirmed its launch plans for the Onn Pro.

First appearing early month, the Onn Pro box is Walmart’s next Google TV streamer. It has more RAM and storage, more ports, and always-on mics for Google Assistant commands. It’s a much more capable device on the whole, and an exciting entry to the Google TV marketplace.

Plus, at a price of $49.88, it offers way more functionality than the equally-priced Chromecast with Google TV.

However, the launch of this device has been very messy. Some users have been able to purchase the box in stores while most others have not. It’s been confusing, but also not the first time this has happened. With the previous Onn 4K streamer, the same thing happened.

In a statement to 9to5Google, Walmart confirmed that the Onn Pro Google TV streaming box will be available widely “this month.”

There’s no firm release date, but the device will start to become widely available in Walmart stores and online over the coming weeks. Already this week, the device has started to be available for shipping online and has expanded to more locations just in the past couple of days.

A Walmart spokesperson says:

Yes, this month, Walmart is launching the latest in streaming innovation from the retailer’s private brand, onn., in collaboration with Google: the onn. Google TV 4K Pro Streaming Device. The new device will be available for $49.88, and offers incredible new features like 4K streaming, Dolby/DTS audio and smart hub capabilities, including hands-free voice control and compatibility with Google Home devices to use “Hey Google” commands.

You can try your luck at Walmart.com or your local store to see if you can purchase the device, but it could be a few more weeks before it’s available to everyone. Still, this is a rather exciting release. Our unit is en route, so stay tuned for our full review soon!
