Report: Google to take on AmazonFresh, will begin testing fresh-food delivery in two US cities this year

Bloomberg reports that Google will begin testing grocery and fresh food delivery in two US cities later this year in an attempt to directly compete with AmazonFresh. Brian Elliot, general manager of Google Express stated that the company will be partnering with Whole Foods Market and Costco Wholesale, among others, to deliver the new service. You can now order takeout in the U.S. from your Google search results

In a post on Google+ this evening, Google has announced that it is adding a new feature to its search engine that will make it incredibly easy to quickly order food on the go. Google says that starting today, if you search for a restaurant that is integrated with Seamless, Eat24, GrubHub, Delivery.com, MyPizza.com, or BeyondMenu, you will be able to order a meal directly from the search results.

Uber could take on Amazon as it taps Google’s head of same-day delivery business

Uber has already disrupted taxi service in metropolitan areas like San Francisco, New York and Chicago with its affordable and convenient ride-sharing service, and now the multibillion dollar startup could be planning to use its massive fleet of vehicles and drivers to take on delivery services like Amazon Prime, Google Express, FedEx and UPS.

Google Shopping Express becomes true Amazon Prime competitor w/ $95/year memberships, new cities & more merchants

Google announced today that its rebranding its Google Shopping Express service while expanding the same day delivery service to new markets and merchants. While announcing the new shorter “Google Express” name, Google announced that the service is now available in Chicago, Boston, and Washington D.C. After first rolling out the service a year ago, it’s now accessible to more than 7 million people.

Google also noted some of the big merchants it’s added support for in recent months, including alcohol delivery in the Bay Area, making for a total of 16 new shopping options through Express:

Google Shopping Express adds same-day deliveries for Costco in San Fran Bay Area

After expanding its same-day delivery service to the entire Bay Area back in September alongside new mobile apps, Google today announced the latest update to Google Shopping Express. The service is now officially available to Costco shoppers in the San Francisco Bay Area, allowing them to get same-day deliveries for items ordered online or through the Google Shopping Express mobile apps.

Google is also still offering six months of free same-delivery until the end of the year and $5 off your first order.

The Google Shopping Express mobile app is available for Android or iPhone.

Google’s BufferBox self-serve pickup service comes to San Francisco

After first acquiring the Waterloo, Ontario self-serve package pickup startup Buffer Box last year, Google today announced plans to expand the service. The company has been making its self-serve pick up boxes (pictured above) available for deliveries in the Toronto area close to its home, but today Google announced the BufferBox service is coming to San Francisco for online purchases:
