Beats Music drops subscription price to $99 amidst Apple acquisition, Android app will stay around

Amidst the news that Apple is officially acquiring Beats for $3 billion, the service has announced a price cut. The subscription service now costs just $99 a year, down from $120. In addition, Beats users can now trial the service for free for fourteen days. The Beats Music app for Android also been updated to reflect these changes, alongside the usual performance tweak and bug fixes.

What’s New

* We’ve dropped the price of our yearly subscription to $99.99, down from $119.88.
* To top it off, we pushed tons of bug fixes so the whole experience runs smooth as silk.

Android users will also be happy to know that Apple has no plans to shut down the Android app just yet. In an interview with the Financial Times, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the Beats app for Android and Windows Phone will remain available.

Beats Music can be downloaded, for free, from Google Play.

Getting your Android smartphones upgraded to the latest version is an important factor in considering which carrier to go with, because some carriers push updates quickly while others let things fall by the wayside.

This time around, AT&T is the first carrier to upgrade one of its phones to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Besides the Galaxy Nexus devices, and anything running a hacked version or Cyanogen Mod, Vivid owners will be the first U.S. device owners running ICS.

A version of ICS briefly hit Vivid owners earlier this week, but it was pulled. At the moment, we are not able to do the update, but we are told it is rolling out now.

According to HTC’s Twitter account, the Vivid will also get Beats by Dre audio functionality as well.

HTC just sent out invites for the unveiling of their “latest innovation” slated for November 3rd in NYC. Judging by the Beats by Dr. Dre logo, whatever is announced will most likely benefit from that recently acquired audio tech. Many sources are speculating we’ll get a look at the leaked HTC Rezound  (codenamed HTC Vigor). That device is rumored to have a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch 720- HD display, 4G LTE capabilities, an 8-megapixel camera, and 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
