Nexus
A familiar rumor resurfaced online this morning thanks to a report published by The Information saying that Huawei and Google are working together on this year’s Nexus smartphone. It’s speculated that the device will land later this year, almost certainly in the fall. If this is genuine inside knowledge it would be the first time a Chinese manufacturer has been chosen to make the “Pure Google” smartphone.

Google’s Nexus Player may not be a substitute for a full-on games console, but if you want something which combines the casting capabilities of the cheaper Chromecast stick with some casual gaming capabilities, you can now pick one up for 35% off.
The official Asus store on Amazon is currently offering the device for $64.78, a saving of a little over $35.
The Nexus Player was the first device to get Android 5.1.1 back in April.

We can’t be sure whether or not this was what OnePlus meant when they said they’d “shake up the industry” on June 1st, but either way the company is holding flash sales on the OnePlus One at different times today through this Sunday, June 7th.
Here’s the full schedule of the next times the sale will go live:
June 2 – 2:00 GMT (10 pm EST -1 day)
June 3 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
June 4 – 2:00 GMT (10 pm EST -1 day)
June 5 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
June 6 – 2:00 GMT (10 pm EST -1 day)
June 7 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
During the flash sales (devices may go fast, so you’ll have to be quick) OnePlus is offering the 16GB Silk White OnePlus One for $249 and the 64GB Sandstone Black model for $299. That’s a pretty good steal for a solid alternative to the Nexus 6, which was priced unusually higher than its Nexus predecessors.
OnePlus long ago confirmed that they were working on the OnePlus 2 and said it was slated for “sometime in 2015,” but that’s all we know about that device.
Google is kicking off its I/O developer conference today with its usual keynote presentation. The focus this year was the future of Android with a lot of stage time dedicated to Android Wear smartwatches, Android M, its new Android Pay service, and much more. Below we’re rounding up some of the stats and numbers shared by Google execs on stage including updates on the user base for its core services and how its new Android platforms have grown over the last year:

Google’s existing Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 handsets
With Google reporting falling revenues from its Nexus devices, and having seemingly abandoned the original concept of an affordable vanilla device in favor of more expensive devices, the future of the product line was looking a little uncertain. But a new rumor says that Google will indeed be continuing the Nexus program – and not just with one new smartphone, but two.
Android Police cites a “reliable source” in suggesting that Google is partnering with two different manufacturers: with LG for a 5.2-inch smartphone code-named Angler, and with Huawei for a 5.7-inch phablet code-named Bullhead …

Google today announced a new series of limited edition cases for Android devices and first up is a collaboration with electronic music artist Skrillex and cases for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
The new limited edition Skrillex Live Case isn’t your average smartphone case: Google is bundling a companion experience that will offer a live wallpaper that updates throughout the day with satellite imagery from a custom-designed balloon satellite it launched for the project:

Update: The OTA download link is now available for the Nexus 5 as well.
Android 5.1.1 been making its way to most Nexus devices over the last few weeks, and now it’s time for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 to get a chance at the fun. The factory images still haven’t been uploaded to Google’s developers’ website, but some Nexus 4 and 5 owners are already receiving the update to 5.1.1 over-the-air and have kindly shared the download links—meaning you can get the update right now straight from Google’s servers and sideload it via ADB.
