OnLeaks, otherwise known as Nowhereelse.fr’s Steve Hemmerstoffer, has today shared an image of what he claims is a rough render of what the backside of an upcoming LG Nexus will look like. He hasn’t provided any information on any details or specifications of the phone, however.
We can assume that the top hole is where the main camera sensor will be, and the square gap to the left of that is likely to be where flash and perhaps a laser autofocus module will be located. We know that Google is adding standard support for fingerprint sensors in Android M, so the second hole could possibly for that. We know that Motorola’s Nexus 6 had a fingerprint sensor at this location in its earliest prototypes, but Google ended up holding off on those software features for a year.
Otherwise, this image purports to show us what the general form factor of the device will be. On the left side of the image (likely to be the right side of the phone), you can see that there is a lock button and a volume rocker, and of course along the bottom there is a spot for USB and perhaps a speaker. It looks like a headphone jack might be on the top.
Earlier reports suggested that LG will be the OEM creating one of two upcoming Nexus devices, with a screen size of 5.2-inches (which could very well be the much-wanted 2015 Nexus 5). The report claimed that the device is codenamed “Angler” and will sport a Snapdragon 808 alongside a battery somewhere in the realm of 2700 mAh:
The LG Angler (remember, sea creature code names) will have a 5.2-inch screen and a battery in the neighborhood of 2700mAh. The capacity is not completely decided, but neither is the ARM chip. LG is currently planning on a Snapdragon 808 in this device. That’s the same hexa-core chip used in the LG G4.
Another device, purportedly being made by Huawei with a screen size of 5.7-inches, is also reportedly in the making. We have yet to hear much about that phone, but it looks like it’s just about time for the leaks to start falling into place.
