Google is giving Chrome for Android more Material 3 Expressive with a redesign of the Settings page.

Google shared today that Android and Chrome have set “new performance records” for mobile web browsing.

Following the announcement in January, Google is now bringing Personal Intelligence to free users in the Gemini app, Gemini in Chrome, and AI Mode.

Google is updating Chrome on Android tablets and foldables to be more like the desktop version by adding the bookmarks bar. 

Seemingly out of nowhere, the “Save image as Type” Chrome extension was marked for removal, with Google warning users that the extension contains malware. The extension had at least one million users.

Following Mac and Windows versions, Google Chrome will soon support ARM64 Linux devices.

After the US launch last year and big update this January, Gemini in Chrome is now coming to Canada, India, and New Zealand, as well as adding support for over 50 languages. 

With new Gemini features, Google wants to transform Drive “from a passive storage container into an active knowledge base.” These updates are also coming to Google Slides and Sheets, starting today for AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, as well as Gemini Alpha business customers for US-English. 

Later this year, Google will release major updates for its Chrome browser on all platforms every two weeks to “get features [out] faster.”

Chrome on Android has offered a Reading mode for several years now, and Google is now significantly redesigning it.

Following last month’s big Gemini in Chrome update, AI Mode in Google’s desktop browser is getting its own upgrade in the address bar.

Google is officially announcing a trio of new desktop Chrome productivity features today: Split View, PDF annotation, and Save to Google Drive.

According to the latest release notes for Google Play services, Android phones will be getting a “new local file backup feature” powered by Google Drive.

After announcing in December, Google is more widely rolling out tab pinning in Chrome for Android.

No matter how many dedicated apps you have installed on your PC, you probably live most of your life in the browser. Google’s well aware of this — it’s the entire concept behind ChromeOS, after all — and now, it’s bringing a new setting that’s going to allow Windows users to launch Chrome right from the jump.

Alongside auto browse, Google today announced a number of additional updates to Gemini in Chrome, including the new side panel.

Google today announced “Chrome auto browse” as a “powerful agentic experience that handles multi-step chores on your behalf.”

Google has confirmed that, starting with a release scheduled for July 2026, Chrome will end support for macOS 12 – “Monterey.”

Google Chrome has made a test of its new vertical tabs feature available, and you can try it out for yourself pretty easily.

Last year, Google Drive’s Material 3 Expressive redesign rolled out in a piecemeal fashion and saw one aspect revert. The full revamp with the container component is now available. 

After teasing in September, Google Chrome for iOS is now more widely rolling out a built-in Gemini experience.

With Gemini in Chrome and the upcoming availability of agentic capabilities, Google is detailing how the browser will protect against threats.

Google is rolling out a number of updates to Chrome Autofill, including Google Wallet integration and a slightly better design on Android.
