PSA: Gmail is down for some users, Google is investigating

Gmail is experiencing downtime this afternoon as some users are having issues with receiving messages and accessing their account. Google confirmed the issue on its apps status page and said it was investigating reports as of 1:56PM EST.

The company provided a later update at 2:46PM EST today noting that it’s continuing to investigate and confirming it’s discovered that “some messages sent to consumer Gmail accounts are being rejected due to authentication enforcement.”

Google plans to provide another update by 3:46PM EST with more details on when it expects to resolve the issues.

Google Drive clocks out early, service disruption impacts Docs + other apps [Updated]

Update: Google says all services are restored!

Seeing Google Drive and other services unresponsive this afternoon? Rest assured that it’s not just you. Google has acknowledged the service disruption on its app status page with this message posted within the hour:

We’re investigating reports of an issue with Google Drive. We will provide more information shortly.

Google Calendar experiencing service disruption this morning, Google investigating

Having problems with Google Calendar this morning? You’re not alone, as Google just confirmed that the app is currently experiencing a service disruption for many users.

Google updated its Apps Status website to reflect the outage that was first reported earlier this morning at 6:49 AM EST. The company last checked in at 9:30 AM noting it’s “continuing to investigate this issue.” It’s unclear at this point how many users are affected:

“We are working on getting the exact list of affected users. This is the first step towards fixing the issue. Next update within 3 hours.”

We’ll update you here when Google resolves the issue.

Service disruption hits Gmail, temporarily knocks out some syncing and other functions

Update: Google says Gmail is back up and running for all users.

Some users (myself included) may have noticed issues syncing mail changes on their Gmail accounts this morning. Google has now acknowledged on its system status page that a “service disruption” is current affecting the email service. The company says the issue currently only affects IMAP connections to the email service, and while most users will see problems, some may not.

While this isn’t a total outage, users can expect to see slow or nonexistent syncing of their mail across devices for the time being, with other features like sending and receiving mail possibly being affected as well. Google has published the following update on the downtime:

Widespread Google service disruptions reported including Gmail, Hangouts, & Play Store (Updated)

Update: Everything seems to be returning to normal as of 12:30 ET.

According to a number of reports on Twitter, several Google services are having issues this morning. User tweets show that Hangouts, the Play Store, Gmail, Play Music, OAuth, and other services are having unusual performance issues. Some users are receiving authentication errors on their Android devices and unable to do anything that requires a Google log-in…

Google is investigating a Drive service disruption this morning

Update: Resolved.

Google Drive is currently experiencing a service disruption for many users. Google first confirmed the problem earlier this morning noting that it’s “investigating reports of an issue with Google Drive.” Users trying to access various Google Drive services might receive a “500 errors and latency,” according to Google’s App Status Dashboard.

Google’s latest update on the outage through its Google Apps status website said the company is continuing to investigate and will provide an update later today with more information on the issue.

The service isn’t down for everyone, but we’ll update here when Google resolves the problem or provides any further updates. You can check the status of Google Apps through its Apps Status Dashboard here.

PSA: Google is investigating an issue with Google Drive sharing

Google is investigating an issue for a number of Google Drive users this morning after rolling out an updated UI for the service earlier this year. Google confirmed the problem on its app status website noting that users on the old Google Drive interface are unable to share documents externally.

Google is marking the issue as a service disruption, which means you should still be able to access all of the service’s other features while it looks for a fix. While the new user interface is being rolled out to users already, users still on the old UI have the ability to manually opt-in to the updated Google Drive.

Google+ Hangouts experiencing outage for some users, Google investigating

In case you were wondering why Hangouts isn’t working this afternoon: Google reports it has been experiencing outages for Google+ Hangouts since earlier today. The company has been providing updates on its app status page but is yet to resolve the issue.

Google says the “the problem affecting a significant subset of users” and that some “will not be able to start new video hangouts.”  The company’s most recent update notes that the issue is ongoing mostly for users in Europe.

We’ll update here once the problem has been resolved.

Gmail and Google Drive affected by Google Apps downtime

Google Apps experienced some downtime today, bringing down Gmail and parts of Google Drive for about an hour. During the downtime, Google Apps customers were unable to send or recieve emails (or experienced delays in doing so) or use the docuement and slideshow creation tools.

Everything appears to be running smoothly now, however. Google has not yet said what caused the downtime.

Google acknowledges Gmail, Drive, and Docs service disruption, Admin control panel/API outage (Update: Fixed)

Update: 10:52 AM EST – Google’s status website reports that Gmail should be back online for everyone

Update: 9:01 AM EST – Google’s status website also reports issues with Google Docs

As of 8:58 AM EST, Google has acknowledged a service disruption with Google Mail as well as Google Drive.

Google is also reporting a complete outage of its admin control panel/API.

While the outage does not seem to reach everyone, my work Gmail account has been telling me that my password is wrong all morning.

Notably, Google Calendar and Talk seem to be unaffected.

Google investigating reports of Google Drive service disruption

Google has updated its apps status page this morning to reflect an investigation into reports of issues with Google Drive. Google doesn’t go into detail about what specific issues are being reported, but users online have reported problems connecting to the service mainly through the web app. The apps status page lists the problem as a service disruption, indicating not all users are unable to access to the service. The service disruptions seem to be hitting a large amount of users, and Google confirmed it would provide more information soon. We’ll update this post when Google provides us with an update.
