Imgur releases its first ever native Android app with card-based interface, more

In addition to updating its iOS app, Imgur this morning has also unveiled an entirely new version of its Android app. Imgur says that this is its first ever fully native app for Android users and was built completely from scratch. The app features a redesigned card-based gallery that offers large and easily viewable images. Users can navigate throughout the interface by swiping left or right to view more content.

Users can sort content by a variety of parameters, including what is most popular or what is most recent. They an also give an image a heart, as well as upvote and downvote images.

In addition to the new interface, Imgur users can create and share visual stories directly from their smartphone with today’s update. Android users can choose to either take a new picture with their device’s camera from directly within the app, or to choose an image from their photo gallery. After choosing an image, they can “work in some storytelling magic” and share it to the service.

For those unfamiliar, Imgur is a service that allows users to share a variety of different categories of images, including GIFs and memes. Users have the ability to create albums of images based on whatever topics they wish, in addition to offering a meme generator service that allows users to create memes on the go.

The new version of Imgur for Android is available now on the Play Store for free.
