LeEco plans event for April 20th in Beijing as it prepares ‘grand’ U.S. product launch

Chinese company LeEco, previously known as LeTV, has an event scheduled to take place in Beijing next month, but this time things are a bit different than usual — the company is making a point of inviting US media. The company has over the last couple of years sold an impressive number of Le 1, Le 1 Pro, Le Max and Le 1s handsets — as many as 4 million in 2015. And now LeEco is getting ready to make its “grand” entrance into the United States market…

China tightens blockade on Google, blocking email app access to Gmail [Update: restored for now]

Update: The FT reports that access has been restored for now at least, with a slight pickup in Google’s stats appearing to confirm.

China has tightened its firewall blockade of Google services, reports Re/code and the WSJ, with email apps no longer able to access Gmail via IMAP, POP3 or SMTP. While web access to Gmail has been blocked since June – believed related to the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre – users had remained able to access mail using email apps like Apple Mail and Outlook until Friday …

Google services again facing outages in China after brief restoration this morning

Earlier today, access to Google’s variety of web services was finally restored in China, after weeks of them being offline. This evening, however, Reuters reports that once again, the Mountain View company’s services are being disrupted in China. This includes tools such as Google Search, Maps, Gmail, advertising services, and more.
