Google compiles security tips to help avoid COVID‑19 scams

Earlier this month, Google revealed what coronavirus-related spam, malware, and phishing Gmail is blocking on a daily basis. The company today detailed online threats from government-backed groups, and provided security tips for avoiding COVID-19 scams.

One of Google’s best-known security teams is Project Zero, and its mission is to find zero days vulnerabilities. Internally, the company also has the Threat Analysis Group (TAG) to “counter targeted and government-backed hacking against Google and our users.” Moving forward, TAG will publicize and share its work to “advance the broader digital security discussion.”

The company’s security team advises users to update Chrome on all platforms immediately as there is evidence of a malicious party actively using the attack.
