Snap stock is plummeting following dismal Q3 earnings that revealed losses accelerating faster than revenue. To counteract this, CEO Evan Spiegel noted a number of changes, including developing a new version of its Android client “from the ground up.”
Back in 2014, Google launched the Made with Code initiative to encourage girls and young women to enter the computer sciences. Its latest project is a partnership with Snap Inc. and invites teens to submit Snapchat Geofilters, with the best ones being turned into a Lens.
Snap’s hardware division was reshuffled this morning in a move that saw several jobs cut and new leadership for the social network’s nascent gadget efforts. New Hardware VP Mark Randall was previously at Google and Motorola running the supply chain for those companies’ hardware efforts.
Back in 2013, Facebook offered to acquire Snap for close to $3 billion. The ephemeral messaging service of course declined that proposal, and now appears to have spurned another deal to the tune of $30 billion from Google.
