Nexus Player now available in 9 new countries

Following the first availability of the Nexus Player in the UK last month, the Nexus Player is now available in 9 new international countries. Among them are Australia, as well as eight different European countries:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Italy
  • Norway
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland

The device launched in October of 2014 to little fanfare, and we reviewed it not long after saying that it’s a bit unfinished. Right now, owners of the Nexus Player are the only lucky souls to have their hands on Android 5.1.1.

Google Flight Search expands to Switzerland

Google shared today that its Flight Search feature is now available to users in Switzerland. This means an optimized version of the travel search function with local currency and language is available from primary Google search both online and through Google’s apps in Switzerland. Previously, users had to rely on google.com/flights which isn’t fine-tuned for users outside of the United States.

Whether you’re traveling from Geneva to Barcelona, Zurich to Sydney, or you’re not sure where to go, Flight Search can offer inspiration and help you find the best flights available. Starting today, you can use Google to quickly and easily compare and book flights — from your mobile device, desktop or tablet.

Users in Switzerland can now access the localized Google Flights Search feature through www.google.ch/flights in addition to seeing support through the Google mobile apps with Google Now cards supported. Google adds that Now cards will display airfare changes for searched flights for users in Switzerland. Previously, Google Flights Search expanded into Denmark, Norway, and Sweden in mid-2014,

Google adds 330K miles of biking navigation to Google Maps for Android in 10 countries

Google just launched biking navigation and directions for the Android version of Google Maps in 10 countries.

The countries —Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom— also got desktop biking directions last month. Today’s rollout specifically includes voice-guided Google Maps Navigation (beta) for turn-by-turn directions across a half-gigameter of biking lanes.

Google Maps Software Engineer Larry Powelson elaborated:

Today, there are more than 330,000 miles (equal to more than 530,000 kilometers, or half a gigameter) of green biking lines in Google Maps. Dark green lines on the map show dedicated bike trails and paths with no motor vehicles, light green lines show streets with bike lanes and dashed green lines show other streets recommended for cycling. Biking navigation even helps you avoid steep hills.

Samsung has sold 3 million Galaxy S IIs in 55 days, 20 million phones in a year

Site default logo image

Hot off the heels of withdrawing their counter-suit against Apple, Samsung has announced they have sold 3 million Galaxy S IIs in just 55 days. This is a new record for the company beating sales of the Galaxy S by 30 days. What’s surprising here is this phone hasn’t landed in the U.S. yet (at least not tied to a carrier), but is seeing great sales worldwide. Samsung says sales have been doing very well in Europe and globally (especially Korea), selling one device every 1.5 seconds, or 55,000 a day. In the U.K., Samsung has been the number one manufacturer for 17 straight weeks.

Check out the press release after the break.
