Acer announces new Chromebook C720 w/ Core i3 processor coming later this month

Acer announced today that it’s releasing a variant of its Chromebook C720 model that comes with an 4th gen Intel Core i3 processor. That makes Acer the first to do so and it also represents quite the upgrade in performance from the Intel Celeron processor in the previous generation C720 Chromebooks from Acer. The company also promises you won’t lose any battery life in the process with the same approximately 8.5 hours battery life quoted as the previous models. 

“Acer has been a leader in the Chromebook space and the new C720 based on 4th generation Intel Core i3 processors marks a new class of Chromebook with enhanced performance and battery life,” said Navin Shenoy, vice president and general manager of Intel Mobile Client Platforms Group. “As one of the most powerful Chromebooks on the market, the additional performance of Core i3 enables an extremely responsive experience while surfing multiple tabs of web pages. Students, families and business users will recognize the difference in how snappy the new Acer C720 is with Intel Core i3.”

Acer is launching two models of the new C720 Chromebook both with the 1.7GHz 4th gen Intel Core i3 processor. One will come with 4GB of RAM and sell for $379.99, and the other will come with 2GB of RAM for $349.99.  Other specs are similar to the previous generation models with an 11.6-inch 1366×768 display and a 32GB SSD.

The Chromebook will arrive at retailers in North America this month and is already available to preorder on Amazon now. You’ll also be able to find some pretty significant discounts on the previous generation C720 Chromebooks now that the new model is announced.

The Acer C720 Chromebook will be available in two models with a 4th Generation Intel Core i3-40005U processor (1.7GHz, 3MB L3 cache). The Acer C720-3404 will have 4GB of memory and will be priced at $379.99, while the Acer C720-3871 will have 2GB of memory and will be priced at $349.99. They will be available this month at retailers in North America.

The additional boost in performance and battery life will be useful to families, students and the growing number of customers who enjoy the Google ecosystem and growing assortment of Chrome apps for school, work and entertainment. Like other Acer C720 models, the new C720-3404 and C720-3871 will have fast 32GB Solid State Drive(3) that boots up in less than 7 seconds and resumes nearly instantly from sleep mode.

Acer Chromebooks are ideal for families, classrooms and anyone that needs a simple and secure computer to share between multiple people.
