Instagram has announced today that it is rolling out support for higher resolution 1080 x 1080 pixel images. This doubles the previous upload resolution of 640 x 640 pixels, and you’ll probably notice very soon that the photos in your stream are looking a bit crisper.
According to a post today from Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger, the update is rolling out to both Android and iOS. Other statements from the company suggest that the feature has been rolling out for about week and you should already be seeing these newer photos in-app.
There doesn’t appear to be an actual app update, as this is a change that is being flipped server side for both major platforms. If you’re an avid user of the desktop version of Instagram, you’re going to have to wait as the company says it has no plans for web quite yet.
