Skype for Android updated with contact syncing

Skype for Android received an update today that makes it easier to import your phone’s contact list. Although this new software is currently available to download, Microsoft says that its contact tracking feature will be available in the “coming months.” When ready, the app will prompt you to verify your phone number and after that Skype will start matching its contacts with people saved to your device’s address book.

The app will then add matching contacts to your people list and occasionally check to see if more people from your phone’s address book have joined Skype. If the thought of Microsoft crawling through your phone’s contact list makes you feel a bit uneasy, the company says you can opt out of this feature and manually manage your address book whenever you feel like it. If you haven’t received the update for Skype 5.0, head on over to Google Play to bring your device up to speed.
