We told you a couple of days ago that Google was building a crane game for SXSW attendees, and last night we finally had a chance to try it out for ourselves. Appropriately dubbed “I’m Feeling Lucky,” the huge crane game offers some free swag from the variety of products the Mountain View company offers via its online retail presence (with no SXSW badge required!)…
For those who are actually in Austin right now, the game can be found at Google’s Fiber Space downtown. The space is typically open as a retail point for selling Google Fiber, Project Fi, and other products to Austin residents, but there’s a line outside on the Colorado St. side of the store if you want to skip the product pitches and just play the game located upstairs. It’s worth warning though that the line was pretty long last night; it took about 45 minutes.
Once you reach the front of the line, you’re presented with the typical controls for a crane game. Move it forward, back, left, and right to line up with one of the many plastic prize-containing balls, and cross your fingers. Inside the balls, I spotted prizes ranging from a $35 Chromecast to an ASUS Chromebook Flip to a Nexus 6P. As you can see in the video below, I didn’t have much luck going for a Nexus 5X.
In the roughly 45 minutes that I was there, there were just a couple winners — spanning probably at least 50 players. If you don’t win, Google still tries to make the wait worth your time with a coupon for $10 off a Chromecast. Either way, I’d say that it’s worth visiting the Fiber Space if you’re here in Austin.
