Over the past few months, Google has rolled out several new features powered by machine learning. Announced at an enterprise event today, Google Springboard allows users to search through Google Apps and acts as a day-to-day work assistant, providing “useful and actionable information and recommendations.” The company also announced a major revamp to Google Sites.
Google Springboard is essentially Google Now, but specifically designed for work. In addition to letting users quickly search through information in Google Apps, including Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Drive, Contacts and more, Springboard provides useful information and recommendations throughout the workday.
The Springboard web app has a search bar that lets users filter results by Mail, Drive, and more. A mobile app provides an agenda view — similar to Calendar — that suggests relevant Google Drive documents. For example, “Pick up where you left off” surfaces documents that have new edits, comments, and that are frequently edited. Presumably, both the web and mobile app will provide the same functionality.
Google Sites is a useful product for posting and sharing information within a company. A major revamp provides a responsive design with new themes and layouts that allow for easy viewing on desktop and mobile. On the backend, Sites now has an “intuitive drag-and-drop design experience supports real-time collaboration by multiple editors.” Additionally, it also provides quick access to Google Drive documents.
Google Springboard and the new Sites has been in preview for a small set of customers and an Early Adopter Program will allow admins to signup. The classic version of Sites will remain fully functional for at least a year and Google will provide options to move content to the new version.
