Google’s phone app will now warn about potential spam callers

No one enjoys getting random, unwanted phone calls, especially on their mobile phone. Thankfully Google is doing something about it, at least for Nexus and Android One users. As long as caller ID is enabled on your device, Google will now give you a clear warning if an incoming call is potentially a spam call.

The incoming call will show a red screen as opposed to blue and label the call as “Suspected spam caller.” After the call has been rejected or answered, users will be able to block that phone number or report it as not spam if it was marked by mistake. Likewise the recent calls screen on the Google Phone will add an option for any phone call to be reported as spam and you will also be able to block that number. Google’s support pages also host detailed information on this process.

Spam callers be gone! Today, we’re beginning to update your Google Phone app with spam protection on Nexus and Android One devices to warn you about potential spam callers and give you the ability to block and report these numbers. If you already have Caller ID turned on, spam protection will be available on your phone once your app updates to the latest version.

The latest update for the Google Phone app, available now on Google Play, enables this functionality for Nexus and Android One users exclusively.
