Invites for April 8 HTC event go out to Chinese media, probably for ‘HTC One M9+’ announcement

Invites for an HTC event taking place in Beijing on April 8th, 2015 have reportedly been sent out to the Chinese media (via Nowwhereelse.fr). As you can see, the device shown on the image above is a bit different than the HTC One M9—it has a dual-camera set up and a circular main camera, rather than the single, rectangular shooter on the back of the new flagship. The render does look similar to the regular One M9 in some ways though, showing what looks to be the same dual-tone finish. In all likelihood, this is the rumored HTC One M9+.

On top of this, we also now have our hands on a few new images of what looks to be a working prototype of the device. The phone looks to have a round-rect physical home button (which definitely doesn’t exist on the M9), and an image of a setting screen on the device reveals—unsurprisingly—that it will be running Lollipop on a 1440 x 2560 resolution screen powered by a MediaTek 64-bit processor.

Upleaks said earlier this month that the HTC One M9+ would be coming at some point in late Q1 or early Q2, and I’d say that an April 8th announcement would definitely put it in that “early Q2” timeframe. As of now, though, it’s interesting to note that invites to this event have only been sent to the Chinese media. It’s not quite certain at this point whether or not the M9+ will be coming to the American market at some point, but it seems to almost surely be coming to China.

As you may have noticed, the HTC leaks just won’t seem to stop. Upleaks was the source of almost every HTC One M9 detail prior to its announcement. And recently, several images and details about the M9’s brother—the rumored HTC One E9—have been coming from the same source.
