AT&T’s Galaxy Tab S 8.4 receiving OTA update to 5.0 Lollipop

Another day, another OTA update for a Samsung tablet. Today it’s the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 on AT&T, which is receiving a bump to Lollipop (hurrah!). The update is to 5.0.2, not a more stable version like 5.1.1, but be grateful that you’re at least getting all the goodness that comes with Lollipop.

This information is courtesy of a support page on AT&T’s website, which also says that the size of the update is over 1.1GB, so you’re going to need at least that much space available to download and install it.

As per usual, updates delivered by the major carriers tend to have notoriously slow roll-outs – waiting a week or more to see it come down on your device is totally normal. To check if it’s been pulled down to your device, open the Settings app, find “About device,” then tap “System updates.”

Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update is rolling out to the Moto G (1st Gen)

Moto G (1st gen) users, your time has come – to update to Android Lollipop, that is. And we’re talking about 5.0.2 here, but that’s better than nothing, right? The release notes went up on Motorola’s website today and many individuals in the /r/MotoG subreddit have been reporting over the past few hours that they’re starting to receive the update.

Some might remember that it was as far back as February when Motorola promised the update was coming for first-gen users “really soon.” Better late than never. Let us know if you spot the update yourself.

T-Mobile’s Galaxy Tab S 10.5 receiving OTA update to Android Lollipop (Update: Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular too)

Update (Verizon): If this page on Samsung’s support website is to be believed, 5.0.2 should soon begin rolling out to users of Verizon’s Galaxy Tab S 10.5 as well. The page includes no additional info on the update, like download size or enhancements beyond those included in Lollipop itself, save for the date released (5/20/2015) and the software version number (T807VVRU1BOD2).

Update 2 (Sprint): Now the changelog for Sprint’s variant of the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 has been updated to reflect an upgrade to 5.0.2 as well, so it should be rolling out soon. Separate from the enhancements and bug fixes included in 5.0 Lollipop and those added by Sprint, this update also removes the Lumen Toolbar which most Sprint users consider to be crapware.

Update 3 (US Cellular): And now we have the changelog for U.S. Cellular’s variant of the Galaxy Tab S 10.5, so 5.0.2 should be going out over air for those devices soon. The description includes nothing more than the list of enhancements and bug fixes that are included in standard 5.0.2 Lollipop. The release date is listed as today and the software version number is T807R4TYUBOE5.

Owners of the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 on T-Mobile’s network may fret no more. If you haven’t already, you should soon see an over-the-air update come to your device updating it to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

The device has up until now run Android 4.4 KitKat, with the AT&T model receiving an OTA update to Lollipop last week and the WiFi variant having received it back in March. It would be nice if this update would have been to a newer, more stable version of Lollipop like 5.1.1, as earlier versions including 5.0.2 have been known to cause a bevy of problems for many devices.

But alas, as the picture above shows, the update bumps the software version of the T-Mobile Galaxy Tab S to T807TUVU1BOE1. The full download comes in at a whopping 1.1 GB.

Update: It looks like Android 5.0 is rolling out to the AT&T Galaxy S4 as well.

The rollout of Android Lollipop (and, now, 5.1 as well) has just been this consistently nagging leaky faucet, and today comes with the introduction of more software updates on even more handsets. As we told you yesterday, AT&T’s HTC One M8 should finally be receiving the Material-laden software starting today. But on top of that, today also marks the day that LG’s G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition will begin receiving Android 5.1… expand full story

Moto 360 update to Android Wear 5.0.2 begins rolling out (Update: All the watches!)

Update: It looks like 5.0.2 is now rolling out to most Android Wear devices.

Motorola has pushed out a Android Wear update for the Moto 360 smartwatch. The update sports “a variety of system optimizations and security updates to improve performance and stability” and includes an updated version of Google’s Play Services software.

The update is built on Android Wear 5.0.2, making the Moto 360 one of the first devices (if not the first) to run this version of the operating system.

The update is being rolled out to users over the next few days. Users who have access to the update will be alerted to its availability and prompted to install it using your smartphone’s internet connection.

Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Stories January 15, 2015

Google has just released Android 5.0.2 Lollipop factory images for the Nexus 10 and 2013 Nexus 7. Previously, Android 5.0.2 images had been available only for the 2012 Nexus 7. Today’s uploads for the 2013 WiFi-only Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 carry the same build number as the build released last month, LRX22G.

Google hasn’t provided any indication of what has changed in Android 5.0.2 for the 2013 Nexus 7 and Nexus 10, but don’t expect major changes seeing that it’s such a small numerical update. The factory images are available to download on Google’s developer site now and should begin to rollout over-the-air soon.

If you need help installing these factory images on your device, you can check out our guide here with all the details, but if you’re not the daring type, you might want to simply wait for the over-the-air update to hit.
