Sketchy leak suggests cheaper HTC One M8 ‘Ace’ variant coming June 3 w/ single camera

We told you about the rumored HTC One M8 “Ace” in previous reports, but now some leaked specifications from sketchy Chinese website ifanr say that the purportedly cheaper phone will sport the recently-popular Snapdragon 801 processor, 2 GB of RAM, a high-resolution 5-inch display, and the latest versions of Android as well as HTC’s Sense technology (via Android Central).

Notably, the phone is said to feature more plastic and less metal to help cut down on costs, and will only sport a single 13MP camera unlike the currently-available standard HTC One M8. But the specs of the phone are almost identical to the M8 in every other way and, interestingly, its few deviations look a lot like the recently-announced HTC One mini 2. Oddly, if this phone launches with these specs, it will share both a general price point (maybe just a bit more expensive) and camera type with the mini 2 while sporting nearly M8-level hardware.

This phone is being called the HTC One “Vogue Edition” in China, aligning with teasers we’ve seen from HTC displaying fashionable women. But the teasers also suggested that luxury isn’t necessarily required to be fashionable; the “Vogue Edition” phone is likely to be this cheaper M8 One “Ace” model.

The device is said to be launching in the sub-$500 range, bringing it in line to compete with some devices that the HTC One M8 isn’t exactly comparable to. The HTC One M8 “Ace” is pegged for a June 3 release date according to these leaks, coming in black, blue, and red color variants.
