Google recruits YouTube talent to promote its new Pixel in latest ads [Video]

It’s becoming really hard to stress well enough how Google wants to push the Pixel in the consumer world. Whether it’s about billboards spread across major cities, videos or crazy print ads, the Mountain View firm is going all in.

And so here we are, on launch day, with three just-released videos dedicated to the Phone by Google; but this time with a touch of YouTube celebrities…

Unlike last time, where Google seemed to focus entirely on a “human” aspect (by essentially remaining radio silent about specs or features whatsoever), the three new clips are actually minute-long videos that focus entirely on one of the phone’s capabilities. We have one for the Assistant, one for the camera, and then a last one for Duo.

Singer, actor, dancer, director, choreographer, and YouTuber Todrick Hall is up first, in its Assistant-driven journey towards designing and creating a new jacket with a hand from Google’s digital helper. The “Perfect Piece” sees Hall asking the assistant about photos, places nearby, as well as a series of everyday questions it hasn’t much trouble figuring out — all with a touch of humor.

Alisha Marie’s glamping trip follows; and what best occasion to take advantage of the Pixel’s stunning 12MP shooter? The ad focuses on things such as the double-twist for selfie mode, the panorama feature, HDR+, 4K recording, EIS, low light capabilities, Lens Blur and the like. Of course, the “unlimited storage at full resolution” makes its appearance, too — and considering how great that is, I’d say it’s definitely a good thing to put in there.

Connor Franta’s puppies bonanza closes the ad trifecta, with not much to show as Duo’s simplicity speaks for itself. Indeed, the Knock Knock feature is highlighted — as well as put in direct comparison with iOS’ rather dull notification — but it’s Franta’s relative popularity and the newborn dogs that somehow manage to lift the overall tone (whether you think it’s cringeworthy or not). You can watch it here below.
