With Apple Music live, Beats Music 1.2.6 kills off ability to join

R.I.P., Beats Music. With Apple Music – Apple’s new streaming service that takes its recently acquired Beats Music and mashes it with the company’s home-grown iTunes – having officially launched today, the Android app has received an update that kills off the ability to start a free trial. Above are pictures before and after the update. The first image is of Beats Music 1.2.5, released on April 21st, and the second is of Beats Music 1.2.6, released today.

In a first for Apple, and alongside a recently released application that makes it easy to switch from Android to iOS (ugh, I know), the company will be pushing out an Android version of Apple Music, expected sometime in the fall. And Apple Music for iOS includes a migration assistant that makes it super easy to transfer playlists and saved music from Beats Music over to the new service, so we expect that to be in the Android version, too. If you, however, aren’t a huge fan of Apple, maybe now is the time to give Google Play Music All Access a try?

With Google-owned YouTube recently launching its own streaming music platform, it seems that Google is poised to provide a solid challenge to others in the streaming space, like Apple’s iTunes Radio and Beats Music services.

Now the market is about to get a little more crowded as an even newer competitor prepares to enter the fray. Audio hardware manufacturer Bose is reportedly planning to launch a direct competitor to Google’s streaming services. The information comes from a job listing posted by the speaker manufacturer.

Beats this evening announced a hefty update to its streaming app on Android. The update bumps the app to version 1.1 and includes a variety of features and changes that users have been calling for since the initial release. For one, you can now use the app in landscape mode. The “Just For You” interface and recommendations have been made more “refined and fresh” with this update, as well.

Beats Music app updated with a new widget and improved social media features

After listening to user feedback, Beats Electronics has released an update for its Beats Music app for Android. The 6.9MB download brings a new widget, refined social media tools, improved offline play and a standard group of undocumented fixes. While these enhancements may not be enough to lure some folks away from other music streaming services, they’re definitely a step in the right direction.

Here’s a look at version 1.0.8’s complete changelog:

  • A brand spanking new widget
  • Find your friends feature lets you find your friends and follow your Facebook friends on Beats Music
  • Ability to link and unlink your Twitter and Facebook accounts
  • New Tracks available in The Sentence
  • Offline mode and downloading improvements
