Fitbit’s wearables have set a standard for efficient and reliable fitness trackers over the past few years. Going against the grain, Fitbit’s latest Versa 2 update seems to have broken key functions of the fitness tracker, including heart rate and sleep tracking functions, or even bricking it all together.

Earlier this month Fitbit was granted clearance by the US FDA to passively send notifications when signs of Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) were detected by its smartwatches and trackers. Now, Fitbit is officially rolling out Irregular Heart Rhythm Notifications to nine of its products, including the Sense and Charge 5.

In November, Google framed its acquisition of Fitbit as a way to “help more people with wearables.” However, since the deal is still pending regulatory approval, the two companies have yet to integrate or announce any joint plans. That now appears to be changing as Fitbit works on bringing Google Assistant support to its devices.
