As the 2022 Google for Games Developer Summit kicks off this morning, the company detailed its latest efforts and tools for Android developers.

Google for Games today announced its 2022 Developer Summit is set for March 15, which is a week before the Game Developers Conference. It covers how to build using the company’s various gaming platforms and cloud tools, as well as advertising.

Google is infamously known for starting multiple projects to accomplish what is more or less the same task. That practice extends to gaming, with court documents today revealing an Android and Google Play-focused “Games Future” that’s apparently running parallel to Stadia.

On the first day of this year’s Games Developer Conference, Google introduced a handful of Android 12-specific features to improve the gameplay experience, including a game dashboard and the ability to get into titles much faster.

Ahead of the 2021 Google for Games Dev Summit next month, the company shared the two-day agenda split across four tracks. Besides Android 12, Play, Ads, Firebase, Chrome, YouTube, and Cloud news, Google will be talking about developing for Stadia.

In addition to unveiling the Snapdragon 865, Qualcomm last December announced that it would update GPU drivers through the Play Store. At the Google for Games Developer Summit today, both companies provided an update on the effort, including how the Pixel 4 will be one of the first devices to see GPU updates.
Following GDC’s postponement due to the coronavirus, Google announced that it was planning a digital developer conference to replace its usual on-site presence. The Google for Games Dev Summit is now taking place a week later on March 23.
On Friday afternoon, the Game Developers Conference was officially postponed. A seperate Google for Games Developer Summit — featuring Stadia — set to coincide with GDC will now be a “digital experience” in light of the coronavirus.
For the past several years, Google has had a presence at the Game Developers Conference focused on mobile and cloud services. The company today detailed their “Google for Games Developer Summit” at GDC 2020 this March.
