Ah, the Pixel Watch. While I wouldn’t declare Google’s ambitions of ever launching a smartwatch completely dead, I would argue that if there’s a spectrum between one coming soon and the ship having sailed entirely, things are leaning in the latter direction. While originally rumored for the 10/9 Made by Google event, the Pixel Watch obviously did not launch last year. This morning, two codenames for what are possibly Google devices emerged in AOSP with evidence suggesting that they are smartwatches.
We initially held off on publishing this given how unusual it is, but it seems Google has confirmed to Tom’s Guide in an interview that it won’t be launching its own smartwatch this year. That’s despite rumors from a handful of typically-reliable sources that have said the opposite.
