Just a couple weeks after the release of the standard Nvidia Shield TV, the company has kicked off shipping of the Nvidia Shield Pro, an upgraded model with a massive 500GB hard drive.
What’s different about the Shield Pro? Aside from storage, there’s not much. It runs on top of the same processing package, still runs Android TV with Nvidia’s custom perks, and comes with the same remote and controller. However, the Shield Pro does get a pretty significant size increase to make room for the full-size hard drive inside, as opposed to the flash storage found in the standard Shield.
That extra storage may come in handy, as some of the games available for the Shield can take gigabytes at a time, forcing users of the standard Shield to take other measures to expand their storage. The added room is even more useful if you’re an active Plex user. The Shield TV can act as a Plex server, so 500GB of storage leaves plenty of room for all your TV shows and movies.
The upgraded model won’t cost you an arm and a leg either, coming in at just $299. It’s available for shipping now from Nvidia’s own store, Amazon, Best Buy, B&H, Newegg, and other online retailers.
Along with that, Nvidia announced today two new free additions to its GeForce Now service ─ Just Cause 2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The former of those is available today for all GeForce Now users, with the latter releasing next week.
