For better or for worse, few companies manage to be as crazy as Samsung. Just a few days ago we showed you their gigantic Galaxy S7 edge-like billboard hulking amid the highways that link Moscow to one of its airports. LG today revealed a new line of OLED display panels that are flexible, rollable, and even transparent. The flexible version sports a resolution of 1200 X 810, and LG says it can produce televisions with this type of display at sizes of up to 50 inches in the future. The panel can be rolled up without affecting its performance at all.

The transparent panel, on the other hand, features 30% transmittance, an improvement over previous models which could only reach around 10%. The company says it is “confident” that by 2017 it can produce both of these types of displays in ultra HD resolution at sizes of 60 inches or larger (with a transmittance of 40% in the case of the transparent model).

Reviews for one of the first smartphones with a truly flexible, curved OLED, the recently announced LG G Flex, have just started hitting online. While the first reviews seem to be mixed, the recurring theme seems to be that the curved display and overall hardware experience doesn’t justify the nearly $1000 price tag. Most reviewers describe it as still feeling like a proof of concept, despite mostly decent reviews on the rest of the hardware and software experience.  The LG G Flex is still only available Korea, but it will soon be launching in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Europe. Head below to get a taste of what the reviews are saying:  expand full story

We first heard the LG G Flex – a smartphone with a curved OLED display – was on its way just over a month ago. That was followed by renders and then photos and video. What none of these showed, however, was the the flexible display really does flex. In fact, the whole phone does …  expand full story
